A podcast transcript from a real episode file
- 00:00
Welcome back to Field Notes, the show about building small things on the internet. I'm Sam.
- 00:04
And I'm Joe. Today we're talking about what happens to an episode after you hit publish.
- 00:09
Right, most listeners skim. They want the one part where we talked about pricing,
- 00:13
not 40 minutes of scrubbing. Which is why we started posting a transcript with every episode.
- 00:18
It takes a few minutes and it doubles as our show notes. And the timestamps let people jump
- 00:23
straight to the part they care about. Let's get into it.

Why podcasters publish a transcript
Listeners skim. A transcript lets them find the part they came for, and it gives search engines the words of the episode, which the audio alone does not.
It also saves time after recording: pull quotes for social posts, draft show notes, and caption the video version from the same file.
